Harnessed Ocean/Tidal stream energy is the green future to power the world.

The Flumill power Tower is the patented system developed from the Flumill concept for the harnessing of Ocean and Tidal Streams. The Power Tower design consists of four key elements, buoyancy where the complete system is buoyant in water, a robust turbine that provides high torque to the specifically designed, non geared, Permanent magnet synchronous generators and simple 4 point foundation.

The complete Flumill system has been developed with improved financial benefits in mind. The benefits of the current design of the Flumill Power Tower for the harnessing of Tidal stream energy include the following:

• The Flumill Power Tower generates power throughout the full tidal cycle. In other words the faster the flowing water the more power produced.
• The simple foundation together with the glass fibre turbine ensure that the manufacturing and installation costs will be less than any current system in the market place.

The Flumill system is designed with no moving parts in the turbine, resulting in a much longer life expectancy than those systems with moving parts. We have designed the Flumill system to be simply replaced on guide wires for ease of maintenance and at the end of the systems design life. By making the Flumill system easily replaced we can maximize the use of the very expensive installed infrastructure (cables, convertors, transformers, grid access and the like).

In summary the Flumill systems are cheaper to manufacture and install, have lower maintenance requirements, produce more electrical power and can maximise the use of the installed infrastructure. The Flumill Power Tower Tidal energy System is Environmentally Friendly. During the design process we gave due consideration that any tidal power system would have to be installed in environmentally challenging areas. Some of the key elements that we have included in our designs are as follows:

• The design of the Turbine is such that the outer speed of the Turbine will never be greater than the tidal flow in which it is operating. In effect sea life would be able to swim/dive through the Turbine.
• Kaplan (Propeller) systems will have wing tip speeds of some 8 times the tidal stream in which it operates!
• All of the materials utilized in the Flumill systems are recyclable.
• We have designed the generators with bio-degradable oil systems
• The foundations will be easily removed at the end of their usable life
