The potential for producing electricity from the power of the oceans is significant and figures from the International Energy Agency (IEA) have shown an accessible tidal energy of Circa:

• Global: 2.200 TWh/year Tidal (Canadian experts estimate the potential to be 3000 TWh)
• Europe: ≥ 100 TWh
• UK: ≥50 TWh
• France ≥ 40 TWh
• Norway: ≥1-3 TWh
• The ocean currents will give an even higher accessible energy figure but are more distant from shore and as such will require greater investment on infrastructure.
• Ocean related energy sources are estimated globally to be higher than 100 000 TWh.
• Energy consumption on earth today is Circa 13 000 TWh
